This Is How You Can Save Energy And Stay Fit At The Same Time!
Share
It’s National Energy Conservation Day today — from household equipment to company supplies, gym equipment, public resources to even large machinery, there are so many places where we end up using extra sources of energy to find our little bundle of comfort.
But do we really need that? Isn’t it possible to save energy and stay active & fit at the same time? Well, definitely it is!
On National Energy Conservation Day, here we are resharing some of the common (yet completely ignored) tips that you might like to follow — to stay physically active while trying to save little ounces of energy at the same time!
Take stairs instead of elevators.
Taking stairs may seem like a minor decision, but it can make a significant impact on energy conservation. Climbing stairs burns more calories than taking the elevator, so it is a great way to stay fit and reduce your energy use at the same time. It will help in saving up the energy used in elevators.
Walk or ride a bicycle instead of getting into a car/ bus/ bike etc.
Commuting in your vehicle is comfortable, but that results in leaving more carbon footprints, and at the same time, it makes you physically inactive. By considering the option of walking or bicycling distances, when feasible, will not only help you burn more calories but also help save transportation costs. At the same time, you'll also be assisting in reducing the environmental pollution.
Handwash your clothes and utensils instead of the washing machine and dishwasher.
Dishwashers, washing machines or vacuum cleaners are energy guzzlers; they consume more energy and water. Hand washing your clothes and utensils or mopping can be a way out of this. It will cut off electricity and water costs, and at the same time, it will make you physically active.
Choose to run outdoors instead of on treadmill/ cycle/ gym etc.
Using treadmills and other indoor equipment will help you burn more calories, but it is less advantageous than running or jogging outdoors, where there's fresh air and sunlight. Apart from burning more calories, outdoor activities also help strengthen your heart muscles and tone your legs, arms, and abdominal organs by working against gravity.
Skip rope instead of watching TV.
Skipping rope not only helps in burning more calories as compared to watching TV for an hour but is also a great way to improve your cardiovascular health. Besides, skipping can be done indoors or outdoors and does not require any special equipment that consumes energy.
Play outdoor games instead of playing video games indoors.
Playing indoor video games is addictive and sedentary. Playing outdoor games will help burn more calories, and at the same time, you'll be giving your body much-needed exposure to the sun, which is good for health. Other benefits of outdoor activities include strengthening bones and muscles and improving your social health.
Eat less meat.
Meat production requires large amounts of water and land resources and produces greenhouse gases like methane and nitrous oxide. Meat production is harmful to the environment; eating less meat can be a way to reduce this harm. Reducing the amount of meat you eat will also improve your health, as meat is high in saturated fat and cholesterol. There are many delicious plant-based foods that you can enjoy, so there is no need to miss out on any flavours.
Buy responsibly!
Do you know how much energy we waste while chasing fast fashion? Yes! Certain fabrics end up consuming more energy than others while in the process of being manufactured.
To avoid this, you can look for brands that manufacture apparel made from pure cotton or mesh or are of good quality and don't end up in the trash soon!
To sum it up!
We live in an era that lives on social media, follows diets only to be a part of some trend and adopt a lifestyle as per latest technologies.
However, if we go even by basic rules and a genuine concern for ourselves as well as mother nature, we’d actually end up saving not only tonnes of resources but also endless possible concerns to our health too!
On this note, let’s work together for a greener earth and a healthier body! :)
